Don’t count out the youth of today. While many baseball players after their game has ended, and their season has come to a close, move on to concerns of heading home to spend time with girlfriends, family, jobs or the next phase of their summer, one gentleman stands out in my mind in my heart, Lane Axtetter, of Festus Post 253, outfielder and hitter extraordinaire stopped by the broadcast booth where we were broadcasting the Missouri American Legion State Tournament. He expressed to Ray and myself his thanks for traveling 3 hours to cover his team, for covering Post 253 all season, and for all the kind words while describing his play. While I imagine there are many young athletes like Laine Axtetter, not many take the time from their busy life to share with the older generation and sustain friendships that will endure long into the future. Good luck young man as you move to college ball and we will see you in 2023!
