The Jefferson College softball team had had plenty of fun this season. Going on a 20-game winning streak added to the enjoyment of a very successful 34-11 overall record. Winning a Conference Championship was also fun. But the Vikings aren’t done yet, and they are geared up for the Region 16 Tournament this weekend in St. Charles.

On the 19th of April, the Lady Vikings embarked on an 8-game road trip that took them to the likes of St. Charles, Trenton, Kansas City, and Neosho, all in Missouri. Jeffco finished the trip with some bumps and bruises, going 3-5 on the tour. After coming home and sweeping a doubleheader with East Central College, the Vikings finished the regular season with a split in Sedalia against State Fair.

First-year Head Coach Chris Starkey and his assistants got some great individual and team performances this season. Sophomore Pitcher/DP Kiersten Nixon finished 15th in the nation with a .516 batting average. She was also among the national leaders in on-base percentage (.547) and slugging percentage (.929). Speedy sophomore Dani Lindsey was 7th in the country with 6 triples. Standout pitchers Hailie Farris and Kiersten Nixon both made the leaderboard in terms of wins, complete games, strikeouts, strikeouts per 7 innings, and earned run average. Right fielder Lindsey Brandt made it through the season without committing an error, as did sophomore catcher Tara Haag. Their perfect 1.000 fielding percentage placed them at the top of the national leaders for fielding. As a team, the “Bash Sisters” were 19th in the nation in triples, among the leaders in sacrifices, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Vikings were among the top teams in earned run average, shutouts, and batting average against in the circle.

Jefferson will put those gaudy statistics to the test this Saturday (7th) as the #2 seed in the Region Tournament. Their 1st game in the double-elimination tournament will be at 9 am against the #7 seed (and host) St. Charles Community College. The winner of that game will face the winner of #3 Seed Three Rivers vs #6 State Fair at 5 pm. The losers of the games mentioned above will play each other at 4 pm.

Come out to St. Charles and watch your lady Vikings have more fun this weekend!
